Answers and Explanations
1) C
Paragraph 2 tells us, “Jaime lives in a house in the country.” Therefore (C) is
correct. The story does not contain information to support answer choices (A),
(B), and (D). Therefore they are incorrect.
2) A
In paragraph 3, we learn, “Jaime has a dog. The dog is named Go-Go.”
Therefore (A) is correct. The story does not contain information to support
answer choices (B), (C), and (D). Therefore they are incorrect.
3) D
To walk across something means to go from one side to the other. In the
story, we can understand that Jaime and Go-Go have walked from one side
of the field to the other because they jump over the fence. We know the
fence is on “the other side of the field.” Therefore (D) is correct.
The story does not contain information to support answer choices (A), (B),
and (C). Therefore they are incorrect.
4) B
In paragraph 5, the story says, “Jaime and Go-Go walk out of the house.”
This is the first thing that Jaime and Go-Go do in the story. Therefore (B) is
correct.
Near the end of the story, Jaime starts to walk home. This happens at the
end, not the beginning. Therefore (A) is incorrect. There is no information in
the story about fishing in a river. Therefore (C) is incorrect. In paragraph 7,
Jaime tells Go-Go, “We are going to the top of that mountain.” To get to the
top of the mountain, Jaime would have to climb the mountain. This could
seem like a right answer. However, this happens after Jaime walks out of the
house. This happens in the middle of the story. Also, he does not ever climb
the mountain. Therefore (D) is incorrect.
5) A
Paragraph 15 tells us, “Jaime starts to walk home.” This happens at the end
of the story. Therefore (A) is correct.
In paragraph 7, Jaime tells Go-Go, “We are going to the top of that mountain.”
To get to the top of the mountain, Jaime would have to climb the mountain.
This could seem like a right answer. However, this happens after Jaime walks
out of the house. This happens in the middle of the story. Therefore (B) is
incorrect. There is no information in the story about fishing in a river.
Therefore (C) is incorrect. There is no information about Jaime playing a
game with Go-Go. Therefore (D) is incorrect.
6) D
In the middle of the story, Jaime tells Go-Go, “We are going to the top of the
mountain.” The next sentence tells us, “Go-Go looked nervous.” We can
understand that Go-Go is nervous because he doesn’t want to climb the
mountain. Therefore (D) is correct.
The story does not contain information to support answer choices (A), (B),
and (C). Therefore they are incorrect.
7) B
In paragraph 6 we learn “the mountain is very tall. The top of the mountain is
in the clouds.” Jaime has fun thinking about climbing the mountain. But in
reality, it would be very hard for him to climb a very tall mountain with Go-Go.
It would also be very dangerous. Jaime will still get tired climbing the
mountain tomorrow. Go-Go will still be nervous about climbing the mountain
tomorrow. Therefore (B) is correct.
There is no information in the story that Jaime will be less tired climbing
tomorrow. There is no information that Go-Go will be less nervous. It is not
likely they will climb the mountain tomorrow. Therefore (A) is incorrect.
